GMC Prep Milestones 2024-2025
Overall Highlights
- GMC Prep began the school year with 899 students
- 100% graduation rate (all 77 students) for the Class of 2025 – for the 16th year in a row
- 72 students (94% of the Class) will enroll in a post-secondary institution in Fall 2025 with 1 student enlisting in the United States Army
- 60 students (78%) are HOPE Eligible
- Four Seniors Signed to play College Athletics
- Fine Arts Director LTC Jenny Morris was inducted into the Georgia Thespian Hall of Fame for her unwavering commitment to theatre education
- Assistant Principal and Varsity Softball Coach Dr./Coach Jennifer Deason was selected as the Co-Coach of the Year by the Georgia Dugout Club
- Science Teacher MAJ Kyle Redmond was chosen by one of his students for My Teachers is Tops for the amazing job he does in the classroom each day
- For the 12th consecutive year, the graduating class established a fully endowed “Class of” Scholarship prior to graduation to provide tuition assistance for future Prep School students
- The “Class of” Endowed Scholarships combined together now total just over $692K.
- Over 20 Middle and High School students attended Legislative Session at the State Capitol as PAGEs
- Hosted the state’s Junior Thespian Conference to over 600 middle school students, teachers, and theatre directors
- Three teachers received the Tri-County EMC Bright Ideas Grant and two teachers received the Baldwin County Farm Bureau Grant; both grants are for teachers to enhance learning for their students
- Hosted by the Georgia Army National Guard, all 9th-12th graders flew in Chinooks
21 State Titles
- Literary Team – Our Literary Team captured their 10th Consecutive GHSA Class A State Championship after winning their 14th consecutive Region Title
- Literary Team -Additionally, 12 Individual state titles were won in the areas of: Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Argumentative Essay, Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Literary Analysis Essay, International Extemporaneous Speaking and Quartet
- Boys Track - Our Boys track team won an individual state championship in the 3200m, 1600m, and 800m. High point award – Julian Council
- Boys Cross Country – Our Boys Cross Country Team brought home the 2024 Class A, Division II State Championship Trophy
- Raiders - Our JROTC Mixed Raiders team brought home the 2024 Georgia State Raider Trophy.
Extra-Curricular Programs
- Earned the GHSA Region 1A Division 5 Sportsmanship Award
- 2024-2025 Top 3 GHSA Team Finishes –Softball State Runner-Up, Cross Country Boys Team State Champs, Men’s Golf State Runner-Up, Literary 1st place
- Performing Arts: Theatre and Music-Live performances of Chicago: The Musical (Schuler Award Competition Show), Winter Gala Performances from grades 3-12 Band, Musical Theatre, and Art (original script created by the 12th grade musical theatre class), Shrek the Musical Jr. by our Middle School Theatre students, Finding Nemo Jr. by our Elementary School Theatre students, and High School Musical by our High School Spring Musical Cast, Elementary Spring Music Performance
- All-State Theatre- Four Students Auditioned and were selected as performers or technicians for the All-State Theatre Opening Production at the Georgia Thespian Conference 2025
- Visual Arts - Fall Art Show, Spring Art Show, and contests/events such as the Annual Veterans Art Exhibit, the State Capitol Art Show
- Marching Band – Our High School Marching Band received superior ratings and was awarded one 1st place, one 2nd place, and five 3rd place recognitions at Band Competitions for their production “Black and Gold”
- Middle School Concert Band – Our Middle School Concert Band earned their 4th consecutive year of superior ratings at their state Large Group Performance Evaluation
- Concert Band – 6th-12th Grade Performed “Out of this World” Concert
- District Honor Band- 6 students auditioned and were selected
New Opportunities
- One of our seniors was the first ever recipient of the Baldwin County Youth Citizenship Award; this is a historical achievement as she was the first recipient for Georgia Military College Preparatory School and Baldwin County
- Our Elementary Students hosted their grandparents for our first annual BINGO with Grands
- One of our seniors was the first GMC Prep ACE Award recipient. The ACE Award recognizes students who have had to overcome great physical, emotional, or social obstacles and stayed firm to graduate high school.
- Inaugural Schuler Award Participant- Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards (GHSMTA) program celebrates excellence in high school musical theatre. Approximately 65 schools performed for three adjudicators to receive scores and feedback. We were proud to have one student participate as a member of the STAR council on the social media team that publicized the awards, and one student recognized as a semi-finalist for Best Actor.
- The 3rd through 8th grade students participated in GMC Prep’s first-ever Science Fair. Our 3rd-5th grade winders went on to compete in the GCSU Georgia State Science Fair where one of the 4th grade groups placed 1st overall!
- Hosted Chick-Fil-A’s event Feed the Troops to honor servicemen and women and our young cadets
- Our Middle and High School Visual Arts Program created calendars exhibiting their beautiful and original designs. The calendars were sold to benefit the Visual Arts Program at GMC Prep.
- Held College Fair for GMC Prep High School students that hosted 14 college admissions counselors from around the state.
- Our High School Marching Band was invited to perform in the 2026 Waikiki Holiday Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii
- Opened Acker Hall as we fully expanded the Prep School to provide hope and opportunity to more students; Acker Hall is the home to our 4th and 5th grade students.
- The 2nd and 3rd Battalions worked as “One Corps” as members of our high school battalion worked with their middle school counterparts assisted to ensure proper inspections at Prep Formation and with inculcating a sense of “The Corps” within all of GMC
- In June, GMC broke ground on the Waddell-Dunn Athletic Facility where prep students will have the opportunity to grow as student athletes, leaders, and people of character
- In its inaugural season, Game Day Cheer placed 7th in State
- GMC Prep 3rd-12th graders had the opportunity to be selected as GMC Ambassadors. The Prep Ambassadors hosted guests, assisted with tours, ushered at special events, and learned to be leaders
New Leadership
- The Georgia Military College (GMC) Board of Trustees announced that Major General Terrence “Terry” McKenrick, U.S. Army (Ret.), was named the institution’s 22nd President. Following a rigorous national search and comprehensive selection process, the Board solidified its vote on April 22, 2025.
- MG McKenrick officially assumes the position on July 1 as Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV, U.S. Army (Ret.) officially retires on 1 July
- LTC Jenny Morris was promoted to LTC and selected to serve as Fine Arts Director of the Prep School as LTC Mark Weaver heads into retirement. LTC Morris has served the Prep School for 9 years and her commitment to educational excellence, determined leadership, and professional focus on success will positively impact our Fine Arts Programs
